Human activity in North America 130,000 years ago? Nine-foot tall Terror Birds in California? These are dramatic discoveries Dr. Larry Vescera and Susan Vescera worked on, which pushed back the record of early humans in North America by well over 100,000 years! After the Vesceras retired in 2010, they moved to Borrego Springs, CA and became certified volunteer paleontologists in the Paleontology Society of the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. In this presentation they will discuss their work, focusing on the 130,000-year old Cerutti Mastodon site in San Diego, subject of a 2017 Nature article, and the identification of a Terror Bird (Phorusrhacidae) fossil in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.
Prior to lunch, a brief Annual Meeting will be conducted to elect Councilors.
A Family Style lunch will allow all guests to enjoy an extensive selection of classic menu items to suit all tastes, including two Appetizers: Sausage and Peppers, or Tomato Caprese; Italian Tossed Salad; and three Entrees: Grilled Chicken, Tomatoes and Basil; Tilapia, Lemon and Herb; or Mushroom Ravioli al Forno (vegetarian).
